History

Bartlett's Harbour is located on a rocky shallow inlet on the north side of St. John's Bay. It was named after Robert Bartlett who settled Bartlett's Harbour in the 1800's to hunt and fish. Bartlett's Harbour was a prosperous community that had a fishing-furring business there for many years. There was also a lobster cannery there that was very large and employed thirty-nine people. It was port to many coastal boats and lumber schooners at this time.

In 1891, the population was recorded as being eight people, and all were Roman Catholic. In 1943, the first school was built but it was hard to keep teachers in the area and so it soon closed. Since then Bartlett's Harbour has grown to a large community with a proud history.
