History

Reef's Harbour is a small community located in St. Margaret's Bay. It was given its name because of the shoals along the coast. Reef's Harbour is a relatively new community and was not established as a permanent settlement until Edward Humber settled there in the 1920's. However, it was inhabited as a summer home in 1907 by Joseph Tucker. James and Guy Marshall setup a store there in 1935. The first school opened in 1948. There was a new school built in the 1980's to serve the communities of Reef's Harbour, Shoal Cove West, and New Ferolle.
